The sunset from the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge looking west.
I drove clear acrosss town and then changed plans and drove some more to get to the Salt River before sunset. It had been a stormy few days and I was iching to get out and shoot. I wasted too much time trying to find a suitable location and finally found the perfect spot. As would fate have it, the sunset was pretty much a dud. Nevertheless, I found a great new location to shoot from when the conditions would be worthy again....
Horses browse in the Verde River on the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation near Needle Rock. I was so surprised to see horses as I explored along the banks of the river. I could see their droppings but didn't put it together until they were in sight. I walked up to a small opening in the vegetation along the bank and there they were. It was pretty special watching them peacefully graze away on whatever was on the shallow bottom. They didn't seem to mind me but slowly moved away to the other side of the Verde.
