Fall on the Salt River
A popular summer time activity is tubing down the Salt River. Bulldog Rock is the starting point for many people seeking relief from the intense summer heat of the Sonoran Desert. The water is pretty cold coming out of from under the nearby Saguaro Lake dam. It's a curious experience... you freeze on the backside and fry on the topside.

Fall on Cave Creek
Even though it was a week from Christmas, the cottonwoods along Cave Creek were still clinging to their green summer foliage. Fall in Arizona is a long and protracted happening sometimes going into January. With the warmest November in history, it's no wonder the trees are still holding their leaves.

Lichen begins the process of breaking down the rock at the Chiricahua National Monument. Molten volcanic ash was deposited during an eruption millions of years ago with water and wind whittling down the rock into the spires we see today.

Aspen and Fern
An opening in the forest canopy creates space for ferns to thrive. The Freidlein Prairie where this photograph was taken, is at the base of the San Francisco Peaks and is a gorgeous wilderness sanctuary.
