A Carpenter in the Garden
The carpenter bee is named because of the way it hollows out a nesting cavity in the woody stalks of some desert plants. A tell-tale sign is a small pile of sawdust at the bottom of a dead century plant where a small, bee-sized hole higher on the stalk has been excavated.
