POINT LOBOS STATE RESERVE, CALIFORNIA

Point Lobos' name is derived from an island off this isthmus inhabited by sea lions, Punta de los Lobos Marinos or Point of the Sea Wolves. Three miles south of Carmel in Monterey County, the reserve is on historic Highway 1 that stretches along the coast of California, Oregon and Washington. Point Lobos has long been considered the crown jewel of the California State Park system for its rich diversity of flora and fauna and spectacular beauty. It has been a destination for millions as well as many artists including early photographers Ansel Adams and Edward Westin and filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock.
