COLORFUL CRYSTALIZED WOOD

These big logs were on a trail behind the museum near the south entrance to the Petrified Forest National Park. The trail meanders through some of the largest, petrified-wood, crystal formations.

I spent two days in the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. A 28-mile long road runs north and south through the park with lots of opportunities to explore the various landscapes.

I stuggled to take the handheld pan above. It was twice as windy as the day before. I wished I'd taken the tripod as I was swaying around like a drunken sailor. The trail was like a drunk test all by itself, nevermind the huricane force winds.

The crystal to the left is just outside the museum. Different minerals replace the wood to create a variety of colors. Looks like a piece of Grateful Dead memorabillia to me...
