I decided the shimmy into the big room at Wukoki. It was a tight fit to get my 6'3" frame, camera bag and camera on a tripod through the small, square opening (bottom left). The room was over 15 feet tall and open to the sky. Fist sized depressions in the walls showed where wooden beams had been, creating a second story in the room. Three walls had small windows above and below where this floor would be.
The dirt floor was heavily silted up and the corners of the floor were at least 3 feet higher than at the opening. It made me wonder what was under there... Probably just more dirt.
It was fun to imagine what living here would be like. The small windows wouldn't have provided much light or let out much heat in the winter. With the roof timbers in place, the room would have been nice and cool in the summer. It's winter that would have been the big challenge.
