On my way to Wupatki, I rolled through the Sunset Crater area. There was a photographic workshop going on in the field before the crater. I stopped a few miles later in the lava fields alongside Sunset Crater. The sun was just coming up. I could just imagine the shutter clicks going off at the workshop...
It felt like I was on another planet. The ground was covered with dark, gray cinder. The large, jagged lava formations were slowly being broken down by the palest-of-green lichen that covered northern surfaces.
