VERDE RIVER SANDBAR

I stopped at this sandbar to do some fishing in the Verde. It was incredibly pretty and the storm clouds were building. I decided to set up camp and proceeded to kick back and enjoy.

The sandbar was pretty big and before too long I shared it with a couple other guys. We chatted a bit. The fish weren't biting. Not long after that, another group come in and set up camp. They had guitars.

Finally a weathered, rural-style (short), decomissioned school bus came lumbering in like some sort of ancient military vehicle from a long ago war. There was still a spot on my right, unfortunately, and they went right for it.

The bus was equipped with dual rear tires and two eastern-European gentlemen. One was friendly... maybe the only one that spoke English. Their camp pretty much put everyone else's to shame. I was envious of their bus and the ability to bring lots of stuff. Stuff that makes a camp really comfortable.

Stuff like tables and chairs and lanterns on high poles maximizing your light. They had tackle boxes upon tackle boxes. Rods and reels, coolers and boxes of stuff... rod holders and several kinds of nets. They even slept outside near their poles rigged with tiny bells.

It was on and these guys were hardcore.

See the group here...
