HORSESHOE LAKE

This lake is on the Verde River continuing on to Bartlett Lake. Mostly a flood control feature, Horseshoe Lake is not especially friendly to outdoor enthusiasts. The road to the lake is dirt and not the best. Once you get to the lake, there is only a single-lane boat ramp. If water levels are low, the ramp is useless. And as you can see in this photo, there's lots of debris in the water making boating treacherous at best. The water levels drop dramatically in late summer and it goes back to more of a river. It refills each spring with snow-pack run-off from mountains to the north.
