In June of 2002, the Rodeo/Chediski fire burned 467,066 acres and was the largest fire in recorded Arizona history. Initially set by an unemployed native american firefighter at Fort Apache, weather and a separate fire contributed to this huge blaze. Heber and Overgaard, both, were nearly burned off the Arizona map from this fire.
