THE AGUA FRIA ARM OF LAKE PLEASANT

The Agua Fria River feeds Lake Pleasant from the northeast. This arm of the lake is home to breeding pairs of bald-eagles and subject to a closure from December 15 to June 15. Some years the restriction is lifted when the eagles fail to produce offspring. It's almost a sure thing to see bald-eagles and their more impressive brothers the golden eagle here. On this day, I watched a pair of peregrine falcons that had a roost on the cliffs.

This is one of my favortie parts of the lake. The lake turns back into a river winding through the desert canyon. Far from the roar of the power boats in the main lake, it feels like wilderness. I've also seen more wildlife here than any other part of the lake.
