This 9/11 Memorial had nearly 3,000 American flags with tags that identified the victims of the attacks 10 years before. It was hard not to get choked up when I walked in.
A program was already in progress when I arrived. 9:03am was the first time honored... the first plane hit the first tower. Then 9:38 and so on. Names of the victims were also being read.
The mood was somber and people milled about in silence. A mix of people were present... Everybody had a camera. There were a number of EMTs, police officers, and bag-pipers many in ceremonial dress uniforms. There were plenty of on-duty, law enforcement officers as well.
It was reassuring to see all the security, but a little unsettling too. It's the new reality after 9/11.
